Abstract
Unfinished nation-building in Iran is the main subject of this research.According to ancient historical experience, Iranians have always been one nation; Western modernity over the last two hundred years was an accidental situation for Iran, and in fact, with the firing of cannons, Russian aggression was an artillery modernity for Iran. One aspect of modernity was the new nation-building as a source of expansionist power. Therefore, becoming a nation in the modern sense and accumulating new experience on top of ancient Iranian experiences was an accidental and imposed situation. However, the emergence of this new situation faced challenges and obstacles in Iran, which resulted in the incompleteness of the modern Iranian nation-building project, which is the main subject of this research. This research explains the challenges and obstacles of the nation-building process and its consequence, namely the growth of anti-patriotism in Iran. The research method is causal explanation with a qualitative approach. The aim of the research is to explain the obstacles and challenges of the nation-building process and the growth of anti-patriotism in Iran. The research hypothesis is that it seems that macro-cultural, political, and social factors were among the reasons for incomplete nationalization in Iran. The method of collecting materials is based on library studies. The important innovation of the research is the processing of the concept of obstacles to Iranian nation-building based on the role of these two important components. The intersection of these four factors—cultural, economic, ideological, and geopolitical—has been the incomplete nation-building in Iran and its consequence, the growth of anti-patriotism These four dimensions have been an obstacle to the sustainable nationalization process in social developments in Iran. The result of the research is that the process of nation-building in Iran is incomplete despite the cultural and historical assets in Iran and the necessity of continuing institutional nation-building elements in Iran.
